Every year 7,900 women die of pregnancy related complications in Tanzania. 50% of deliveries still take place at home without the help of a skilled birth attendant. 98,000 children under the age of 5 years lose their lives every year; 40,000 of them during their first month of life: the neonatal period. Unfortunately there is not a one-fix approach to improving maternal and child survival. We need multiple interventions working together to make a difference. Interventions must be patient-centered and cover all the dimensions of the continuum of care.
